• History: Sam's family moved to Nox County from California when he was 15 years old. For the majority of his high school years, he struggled to make friends. This struggle was made all the worse by his parents moving from Nox to Hemera only two years later due to the sudden jump in vicious, unprovoked animal attacks.
  
  Sam finally made a long-term friend during his senior year when he met Delilah Sharpe. Though she was highly unpopular due to her know-it-all attitude and cold demeanor, it was these same traits that drew Sam in. He, too, favored logical arguments and questioning what others assumed. They also shared a troubled history with their families: Sam's parents came from poverty, to the extent that he was shaping up to be the first one who would go to college, and Delilah lost her father to one of the infamous Nox animal attacks.
  
  They grew so close that, after graduating, they decided to attend the same college and share the same dorm. Though Delilah's grumpy attitude never went away, she did soften as her friendship with Sam continued. The two finally gained a little bit of positive attention from their peers and teachers when they demonstrated their rhetorical skills in the school's debate society. It seemed both of the long-time friends were on track to reach their goals: Delilah wanting to get into political activism while Sam wanted to go into journalism.
  
  These plans were thrown entirely off the rails on a cold, rainy night in late January 2009. Delilah suddenly showed traits similar to the fabled Nox devils, and Sam had a long road to New York ahead of him.
