Nox County, IA, USA
- Located in the vicinity of Muscatine. Very small, with the highest population count in its history still being shy of 30,000. Due to its sparse landscape, this area has become Luce's testing ground for devils.
- Relevant Residents: Officer Andrew Peters (deceased), Rachel Milton (deceased), Zeke Swanson (deceased)
St. Michael's Church
- A small, romanesque revival church located beside a poorly-kempt backroad in the small town also called Nox. It's been abandoned since 2001 after the pastor fled the town following his daughter's death. Since humans first settled the area, it's also served as an anchor to help Luce travel between Hell and Earth, as well as a prison for his biggest threat: Archangel Michael.
- Relevant Residents: N/A, was destroyed by the nuclear bomb dropped on Nox
The Nightmare Sand Pit
- The unofficial term for an unnamed pocket dimension Luce created initially as a hub for devil creation. It was later re-purposed to imprison Michael and the souls of those slain by devils, preventing them from entering Heaven. This is also where Joshua was held for over a month after being kidnapped by Cairyx as punishment for his dissent.
- Relevant Residents: N/A, no longer exists after Michael was set free
Hemera County, IA, USA
- Though no less small compared to the neighboring Nox, Hemera experienced a sudden population jump in the mid 90s from people fleeing Nox, spurred by a strange jump in wildlife attacks. Generally considered a nice area by Iowa standards, but less high-class than Diane.
- Relevant Residents: None currently
Diane County, IA, USA
- Considered the upper-class area of southeast Iowa. Home of many a lawyer, doctor, and career politician.
- Relevant Residents: None currently
Rochester, NY, USA
- Home of the central building housing research for the BSA, a fact that was only revealed to the public in the wake of the mass Cael devil reversion.
- Relevant Residents: Isaac Hawthorne, Joshua Atkin, Madeline Wells, Leah Milton, Jessie Simmons, Sam Ortiz, Delilah Sharpe, Rebecca Sharpe, Amir Karimi
Toronto, ON, CAN
- The capital of Ontario, and the fourth most populous city in North America.
- Relevant Residents: Elijah Hardy, Cassandra Jordan
Bureau of Solomonic Affairs
- Hidden within several layers of bureaucracy in the USA's Department of Agriculture, most people think the BSA only exists within the minds of conspiracy theorists and the con artists who prey on them. However, the organization is very real, and was started in the 1930s when several key US officials were found dead from bizarrely vicious "animal attacks." The BSA is in charge of researching what they've named "devils" and proposing policies to keep the population safe from them. Many BSA policies, such strict regulation of drugs and bans on occult paraphernalia, were proposed under the guise of other societal issues, such the War on Drugs or the Satanic Panic. Though the BSA hasn't figured out the full extent of Luce's plans, they are the only humans aware of his existence.
Nox County PD
- Due to being located at the epicenter of devil activity, Nox County's police force were the law enforcement officials who worked closest with the BSA. Their central station has been used to house many crucial reports regarding devil activity, something which few officers were aware of. On June 6, 2006, after one officer anonymously informed the BSA of a close encounter with Luce, all of the then-currently-serving officers and other workers mysteriously vanished. Former Sergeant Jessie Simmons is the only surviving officer. Due to the poor reputation of Nox police prior to this, most Nox residents didn't even know the station was abandoned.
Red Dragon Project
- Started in 2007 by Leah Milton, this YouTube channel was used to share her personal encounter with a devil, and to vent her frustration regarding the ignorance and cowardice of the adults around her. The Project's scope expanded when Leah was messaged a few months later by self-proclaimed devil hunter Joshua Atkin, who wanted to share his knowledge about devils with the internet as well. RDP became a full-blown whistleblower surrounding devil activity, presented by the charismatic newest member, Isaac Hawthorne. However, RDP also became a target when Joshua stole classified documents about devils from the Nox County police station, as well as contraband equipment like an EMF reader and a spirit box. This only came to light when Leah herself told the neighboring Diane County police force. Joshua went on the run along with Isaac, and the channel fell dormant in early 2009. Almost two years later, the channel has been rebranded to Red Dragon Productions, and the focus has shifted from specifically devils to all things paranormal or cryptozoological.
Devils are living weapons created from hellfire by Luce (with Cairyx's help for the Cael) for the purpose of culling humans. To humans, even those working for the BSA, devils are highly elusive, and their entire existence was doubted by most until the mass Cael reversion. Below is a full list of devil classifications, from most to least powerful.
Goetic Devils
- The Big Boy Demons, both in terms of power and physical size. These are the only Devils not made by Luce, as this class consists of him and the rest of Hell's leaders. To the BSA, Luce is the only known Goetic Devil, though it's possible others have found ways to cross over to Earth.
- Abilities: Limited teleportation (within 50ft, or 15m), reality warping, telekinesis, limited telepathy (doesn't work on Classification Unknown entities), enhanced speed and strength, immortality
Bestian Devils
- These are the most commonly reported devils. They resemble mutated, rotting, or otherwise deformed animals, sometimes even appearing as hybrids between animals. Common features include additional horns, horns or scales on animals that shouldn't have them, additional eyes, and extra or fused appendages. Victims of these devils are often misreported as dying from bear or mountain lion attacks.
- Abilities: Enhanced senses, limited telepathy (restricted to other devils), immortality, enhanced strength and speed
Tenebrae Devils
- These devils are reported as shadow people, hat men, or glowing eyes spotted just barely in peripheral vision or reflections. Unlike Goetic or Bestian devils, this classification is incapable of holding a corporeal form. Deaths caused exclusively by Tenebrae devils are rare, as they prefer to let Bestian devils have the kill. When they do attack, victims will appear to have suffered from brain hemorrhaging. This was the least lethal classification before the Cael.
- Abilities: Incorporeal, full teleportation, full telepathy, telekinesis, immortality, limited manipulation of technology (only works with items specifically designed for paranormal encounters)
Cael Devils
- These are the only devils to have truly human-like forms. In fact, they were indistinguishable from humans prior to the reversion in 2009, coincidentally aligning with these devils reaching maturity. While they are known for being risk-prone, very rarely do they show hostility towards humans. Many have even shown protective behavior around humans they've formed social bonds with. Their existence raises difficult questions regarding their own humanity, both legally and ethically.
- Abilities: Maintaining a human form, limited telepathy (restricted to other devils), physical regeneration, slightly enhanced strength, manipulation of technology
Classification Unknown
- There are some reports of entities that defy standard devil classification. Too human-like to be Bestian, too corporeal to be Tenebrae, too malicious for Cael, and too unknown to be Goetic. They originate from neither Earth, Hell, nor Heaven. These creatures also have the ability to move through technology, and are especially partial to televisions or computers. Their behavior isn't as outright violent as the devils, but they are hardly peaceful beings. Given their main food source is suffering, they are often outright sadistic.
- Abilities: Shapeshifting (both human and animal forms), physical regeneration, limited teleportation (move through electric currents), manipulation of technology
